Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conduct SSC Stenographers Grade C & D Examination every year for filling the vacancies of Stenographer Grade C (Rs.4200 GP/ Rs.4600 GP) and Grade D (Rs. 2400 GP) in the departments/Ministries of Government of India.

In this exams, aspirants who wants to be a stenographer has to pass two main phases of this exams.

1. Computer Based Examination, This is a written examination which contain 200 questions worth 200 Marks. The questions are from three subject i.e. English (100 of 100 Marks), Reasoning (50 of 50 Marks) and General Awareness (50 of 50 marks). After this exams, candidates shortlist for next phase i.e. Skill test.


2. At the time of skill test candidate has to write a dictation @ 80 WPM (for Grade D) or @ 100 WPM (for grade C) of 10 mins in Shorthand/stenography in English or Hindi Shorthand script. After that he has to transcript it in real language i.e. in Hindi or in English on computer by typing in 50 Min (For English stenographer) 65 min ( for Hindi Stenographer) for Grade D Skill test. For Grade C Skill test, candidate has to transcript the matter into English in 40 min ( English Stenographers) and in 55 min (for Hindi Stenographers).


3. After above two phases, candidate found qualified in skill test will go to another phase i.e. the making of merit list. Candidate who was shortlisted for Skill test and has been qualified the Skill test will go through a merit list and a final list will be published by SSC on the basis of their criteria of making the merit list. The merit list is based on the marks obtained by the candidates and his cast also matter in this list as per reservation seats for the vacancies.


SSC Steno 2018 Skill test is really being late. Candidates who has qualified the CBT Examination are waiting for the Skill test. As per inside information received from unknown sources, it is expected that the SSC Steno Skill test 2018 will be begun in the first or second week of October, 2019.
