Today, many students, Job-seeker have many questions in their mind like how much time it will take to be a perfect stenographer, Is it necessary to learn it regular basis, can we learn it ourself etc.
In fact, there is no final point to learn it or there is no level at which we can say that any stenographer is perfect but if we look at the basic knowledge of stenography than it easy to say that you can learn it in 6 to 8 month or in a year but we have to go on for advance learning and keep practicing to not to lose our skill. In a whole year or in one and half year you will be a perfect on to become a stenographer in any government department. If you want to be a reporter in parliament or other state assemblies than you must have a speed above 150 WPM (word per minute).
There is a quote in Hindi i.e. Gadhe or Ghode me fark hota h. So, You only need to be a horse who works hard to reach on the goal. We need to work at optimum level not a hardest one.
To speed up your learning you need to follow the following steps: -
1. Learn all your basics from the book.
2. Start writing dictation of exercises in the book at low speed.
3. Start writing dictation from an essay book so that most of the outlines can be written by you. When you do that you found many outlines are coming repeatedly and you became skilled at that.
4. Start writing dictation from low speed i.e. 40 wpm or 50 wpm and transcribe it and find out your mistakes and resolve them.
5. Write a dictation of higher speed and read it and find out how many words you could not read or write in your shorthand and keep these words in a separate list and start practice to write them in shorthand.
6. Make outlines for the words which can be write easily and you can read that easily at the time of transcription.
Keep practicing with the above step you will be a perfect stenographer after a while. I think this will take only 1-2 hour of your day. You can buy books for this purpose from any book store. You should have the following books if you want to learn shorthand seriously: -
